Carmelo Anthony, one of the most prized free-agents available this summer of 2014, visited the Chicago Bulls and gave them a chance to present their pitch in hopes of recruiting him.
On the opening day of NBA free agency Tuesday, Chicago's star and former MVP Derrick Rose participated in the meeting, who previously said he would not be part of a sales pitch to any free agent.
Rose declined comment as he left the United Center on Tuesday afternoon. A source termed the meetings, which included appearances from Joakim Noah, Taj Gibson and Rose, as "good." It's unclear how much each player spoke.
After that meeting, multiple reports have surfaced that Carmelo Anthony demanded a Derrick Rose work out in front of him to make sure the former MVP is fit to compete.
Alex Kennedy of Basketball Insiders initially reported:
"While at the United Center, sources say that Rose went through a private workout to show Anthony that he's healthy and ready to compete at a high level next season."
If this turns out to be true, this sounds like Melo crossed the line between him and Derrick Rose. Plus, he has not signed with the team yet he demanded something that may already affect their relationship as teammates.
In other news, Anthony is now scheduled to fly to Texas and listen to Houston and Dallas's pitch. Both have good teams but need to convince Anthony that he both wants to live there and they are contenders in a deep West. The Lakers are considered a long shot, selling the market, the brand and Kobe Bryant.
No other teams have meetings scheduled (although a few would like to get their foot in the door).
Anthony has said he wants to make his decision next week.
