Germany knocks out Algeria as they win on extra time 2 -1 at Estadio Beira-Rio in Porto Alegre Monday, ending Africa's participation in the World Cup.

Algeria, who qualified for the round of 16 for the first time, was eliminated by three-time world-champion Germany. Nevertheless, the African team made an exceptional performance all throughout the match as they held the Germans 0 - 0 until the end of the second half of the match.

A 30 - minute extension was implemented, and Germany immediately took the lead as Andre Schurrle nets a goal on the 92nd - minute mark through an assist by Thomas Muller.

Furthermore, Mesut Ozil added another point for Germany as he attacks with a left-footed shot on the 119th - minute mark of the match.

Still, the African team was not discouraged and even attempted to score a goal, with Abdelmoumene Djabou striking with a left-footed shot through a cross by Sofiane Feghouli on the 120th - minute mark.

However, Alegria fails to equalize the match as the game ends at 2 - 1, with Germany winning and advancing to the quarterfinals.

Algeria's goalkeeper Rais Mbolhi comments on the result of the match at an interview in BBC Sports: "It's true we are part of Algeria football history, we went farther than any other team before."

"We have to build upon this performance for the future since we saw that Algeria is able to play on an equal footing at a very high level with other teams," he further adds.

Germany soon faces France, who recently defeated Nigeria 2 - 0, at Estadio do Macarana in Rio De Janeiro on Friday.
