Fans met the doomed Prince Oberyn Martell of Dorne in last season's "Game Of Thrones." Season 5 promises to explore Prince Oberyn's home, Dorne, as well as the consequences that his death would bring to Westeros, specifically the Lannisters.
James Costos, the US Ambassador to Spain and former HBO Vice President, confirmed that the phenomenal series will be shooting scenes for "Game Of Thrones" season 5 in Spain, according to HBOWatch. The series is known for filming scenes in exotic locations such as Croatia, North Ireland, Morocco and Scotland.
The Water Gardens of Dorne, where Prince Oberyn's older brother Prince Doran spends his time, will be shot at the Alcázar of Seville. Ambassador Costos added that scenes for Sunspear where the seat of House Martell resides will also be filmed in the country.
Created in the 1300s, the Alcázar's Moorish structure gives exotic feel that will serve perfectly as the Sandsnakes' home turf. (Picture shown below.)
The fifth season will cover plot lines from George RR Martin's fourth ("A Feast for Crows") and fifth ("A Dance With Dragons") books in the "A Song Of Ice And Fire" saga. This means that new characters will be introduced to the "Game Of Thrones" audience.
In season four, Cersei mentions how much she misses her daughter, Myrcella, in one particular walk with Oberyn. The princess was sent to Dorne to marry into House Martell as a peace pact devised by her uncle Tyrion. Since this next season will introduce the Martell clan, Myrcella will most likely make an appearance as well.
In addition to Myrcella, other members of House Martell are anticipated to make an appearance. The new characters include the ruler of Dorne, Prince Doran, its heiress, Princess Arianne, and Prince Trystane, Doran's son and Myrcella's betrothed. Fans are also looking forward to seeing the Sand Snakes, The Red Viper's eight grieving and vengeful daughters.
"Game Of Thrones" fans are more than eager to see how Oberyn's death will affect the peace that House Martell had already established, especially with Myrcella in their territory and Oberyn's daughters grieving and angry about their father's untimely death.
"Game Of Thrones" season 5 will air in 2015.
