Homeless man Andre Johnson who claimed to be Michael Strahan's number one fan but threatened to kill him, has been charged in attempted assault case.
Johnson, who was arrested outside the ABC Studios on Tuesday morning with a knife in tow, told police officials that he wanted to kill the "Good Morning America" host.
The 25-year-old Johnson allegedly pulled out the knife on the security guard stationed outside the "GMA" studio but the latter luckily pulled it off from his hand, according to BET.
A police officer said, "The suspect went to the entrance of ABC studios and demanded that security let him into the studio. He was denied entrance, at which time he showed a knife. He then attempted to stab a security guard."
The police officer also clarified that although Johnson said he was there to kill Strahan, he did not utter those words while he was being tackled outside the studio, FOX News noted.
ABC News released a statement confirming the incident and said that no one, including Strahan, was hurt during the incident.
The network added that the situation was addressed heroically by the officer present at the scene and added, "It was a scary situation but thanks to the fast actions of NYPD the situation was quickly under control."
In a previous interview with TheWrap, Heather Riley of ABC News told the publication, "There was an incident in Times Square. An individual lunged at one of our employees and was heroically tackled by a police officer. We understand the man was taken in for psychiatric evaluation."
Meanwhile, the deranged Johnson has been charged with attempted assault, menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.
Strahan for his part, will continue to work as a host on "Good Morning America" after he joined the pool last April. He was a former NFL player who was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame this year.
