Photos of Kirsten Stewart in full on Military fatigue uniform have been just released. Kristen is not signing up for the Military but has donned the new look for the new drama, "Camp X-Ray".
Kristen will be playing the role of Private Amy Cole, a soldier who signed up for a tour of duty in Iraq in order to escape her small town but was instead posted as a guard at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.
The story revolves around Amy being abused by her fellow squadmates as well as the Muslim men in her charge. She then becomes friend with a young prisoner who has been detained in the camp for eight years.
With the film's impending release, the photos were revealed Thursday. This is the first time we see the Twilight star take on a very different role.
The photos show Amy patrolling the detention center with an expressionless look on her face, as if seeming to look unfazed by the hostility that surrounds and are directed at her. The photos also show the prisoners, who are locked up like animals in small cages.
Amy, however, begins to unravel as she becomes more and more engrossed with the prisoner Ali Amir, a characted played by Peyman Moaadi.
The film debuted at Sundance Film Festival in January, receiving mixed reviews.
"Ever since the Twilight backlash began, people have questioned whether Stewart is merely a sullen screen queen or a real actor," said a review from the Hollywood Reporter. "She puts that argument to rest here, playing a tough, taciturn character driven by an inarticulate urge 'to do something important', but steadily awakened by unpredictable reality."
"It's a fiercely contained performance, conveying raw personal insights even when Amy outwardly remains clenched in discomfort. There's not a moment Stewart's onscreen here where she isn't completely transfixing," THR concluded.
Written and directed by Peter Sattler, this is in his first feature-length project. No release date has been confirmed but expected date of release is sometime in October.
