Which phablet from Samsung is the ideal purchase for consumers: We pit the Galaxy Note 3 against the older Galaxy Note 2 to see which is better.
In terms of design and display, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 has a Super AMOLED display that measures 5.5 inches and renders a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. The phablet weighs 183 grams and is built with these dimensions: 151.1 x 80.5 x 9.4 mm.
The Galaxy Note 3 also has a Super AMOLED display that is slightly larger than the older version, measuring 5.7 inches and renders a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels. It's lighter than the first, weighing 168 grams, and also thinner (dimensions: 151.2 x 79.2 x 8.3 mm).
For hardware and OS, the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 is equipped with a Cortex A9 processor (a quad core processor working at 1.6 GHz). The chipset is Quad 4412 Exynos model and comes with 2GB of RAM with multiple options for internal memory: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB (the device allows you to use a microSD card – meaning that you can expand your memory by up to 64GB). It runs on the Android Jelly Bean OS.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 3 is equipped with a Krait 400 processor (a quad core processor that is clocked at 2.3 GHz) and a Snapdragon 800 chipset from Qualcomm. The phablet comes with 3GB of RAM and the same options of internal storage space: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB (same as the Galaxy Note 2, the Note 3 gives you the option of using a microSD card to expand your memory by up to 64GB). It also runs on the Android Jelly Bean.
For battery usage and camera specs, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes with a longer lasting battery: a Li-Ion 3200 mAh battery unit that is estimated to last around 21 hours of talking time (3G), while the older Galaxy Note 2 has a Li-Ion battery as well but with a capacity of 3100 mAh that can last up to 16 hours of talking time (3G).
Both phablets have nice camera features, but the latest one has the upper hand. The Samsung Galaxy Note 3 comes with a 13MP rear-facing camera (autofocus + LED flash), while its front-facing camera has 2MP, while the Galaxy Note 2 having an 8MP main camera (autofocus + LED flash) and a secondary camera that has 1.9MP.
The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (16 GB) cost around $394.99, while the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (16 GB) cost $405.99.
