From NY Times News, famous American author of children's book Walter Dean Myers died at 76.

The cause of death of of Mr. Myers was a brief illness according to his son, and he died at Beth Israel Medical Center.

His Works

Based on Wikipedia, Myers has written over one hundred books including picture books and nonfiction. He won five times the Coretta Scott King Award for African-American author.

In 1988, he wrote novel "Fallen Angels" which is one of the books mostfrequently challenged in the U.S. because the content of this book contains adult language and realistic depiction of the Vietnam War.
He sat as one of the Board of Advisors of the Society of Children's Book Writer's and Illustrators.

His "Lockdown" book became a National Book Award finalist. It came about after Mr. Myers met a youth who was afraid of getting into trouble again after prison.

In his "Monster," novel, it was unclear if the young narrator had actually committed the crime. The book was published by Harpercollins in 1999, and in the same year, it was nominated for National Book Award for Young People's Literature. It won the Michael L. Printz Award in 2000 and the novel was named a Coretta Scott King Award Honor in the same year.

The late author continued to write even if he's in hospital bed according to Christopher Myers. He also added, "He often joked that when he passed away there would still be books coming out in his name."

Mr. Myers has three books scheduled for posthumous publication. The futuristic novel "On a Clear Day" will be released in September and "Juba," a novel based on the life of a 19th-century tap dancer, will be come out in April 2015. "Monster", a graphic novel is target to be published next year.
