Samsung Galaxy S5 update includes global availability of its Knox 2.0 security suite for the Galaxy S5. NDTV Gadgets reported that according to Samsung, the Knox 2.0 was initially announced at MWC and includes features such as Knox Workspace, EMM, Marketplace and Customization.

The South Korean giant announced the commercial availability of Knox 2.0 earlier in May. According to ZDNet, Samsung says that Knox 2.0 features "cutting-edge core platform security, improved user experience, and an expansive ecosystem to better meet the rapidly evolving enterprise mobility needs of customer."

Some of the other new features of the Knox 2.0 platform include an enhanced user experience with support for all Android apps from Google Play; Split-Billing feature works with carriers and calculates separately the bills for personal-used apps and professional-used apps, Universal MDM Client (UMC) and Samsung Enterprise Gateway (SEG).

NDTV Gadgets conveyed that the Knox Workspace contains a series of core security enhancements for devices from erratic kernels to third-party apps. Some of the features in Knox Workspace are TrustZone-protected certificate management, Knox key store, real-time protection for system integrity, two-factor biometric authentication and the generic framework of Knox. According to Samsung, the Knox Workspace currently comes preloaded on the Galaxy S5 and which can be activated by IT managers of the company for use.

Samsung has added two new clouds based services with Knox 2.0, Knox EMM and Knox Marketplace, together with a customisation service called Knox Customization.

"Knox has been widely deployed by enterprises since it became first commercially available in the market in September 2013. As a result of this rapid adoption, we needed to evolve the Samsung Knox platform to directly address the ever-changing needs of the enterprise as we demonstrate our commitment to protect and respond to future enterprise mobility and security challenges," says JK Shin, President and CEO, Head of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics.

"The development of the Knox platform is one of many attempts by tech firms to provide solutions that cater to the Bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend in today's modern business. While allowing employees to use their own mobile devices within the workplace saves firm money, it also harbors security risk and can create a headache for IT departments tasked with ensuring cross-compatibility and network safety," ZDNet reported.

Reportedly, Samsung claims that Knox 1.0 workspace users will be automatically migrated to the newer version with an OS upgrade.
