Once again, Germany triumphs over France as they win 1 - 0 at Estadio Macarana in Rio De Janeiro Friday, moving on to the quarterfinals.
It has been 32 years since Germany and France met in the World Cup, with the Germans winning on penalties after a 3 - 3 draw.
Mats Hummels immediately takes the lead for Germany as he buries a header through a cross set up by Toni Kroos on the 12th - minute mark of the match.
According to an analysis by Chris Waddle in BBC Sports, "France fell short. They looked entertaining in the group stage but were beaten by a better team, with more experience at this level, who knew how to see out the game. Germany dominated the midfield and dictated the pace of the game, while France were off their own pace."
"We played like a team again," said Germany captain Philipp Lahm in an interview in ABC Sports, who returned to right back in one of a string of tactically astute changes made by coach Joachim Loew. "Overall it was a good performance from us."
France has never won at a match against Germany in World Cup history.
French coach Didier Deschamps comments on the result of the match at BBC Sports: "Although our adventure in Brazil ends here and we're sad, disappointed and frustrated, we'll move on."
"I hope this group of players can play together for a long time. I have a lot of work to do with them, but things are definitely promising."
He further adds, "Today, there wasn't much between the two sides. I thought we were a little bit timid at first and they scored early. After that, we showed promise. We created chances and could have been more clinical, but Manuel Neuer had a good game."
Germany will soon be pitted against host team Brazil at Estadio Mineirao at Belo Horizonte on Tuesday.
