Argentina eliminates Belgium 1 - 0 at Estadio Nacional in Brasilia Saturday, moving on to the semifinals and facing Netherlands.
Argentina immediately took the lead as Gonzalo Higuain secures a point with a right-footed shot on the 8th - minute mark of the match.
The South American team has never reached the semifinals since 1990, as two-time champion West Germany defeated them during the World Cup finals.
"We've seen the experience of Argentina, they can distort rhythm, it takes 30 seconds to take a throw in, the referee does nothing so they can break our rhythm and speed," Belgium coach Marc Wilmots said at a report in CBC Sports. "We were not impressed by the Argentines, absolutely not, it's just an ordinary team."
"Since the first game of this World Cup I said I was calm, that the goals would come. It came and at an important moment," Higuain said in Yahoo! Sports. "It's been so many years since we made it to the semifinals. Now we did."
Meanwhile, Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella commends the team's performance at a report in Yahoo! Sports. ''They played an excellent match. After 24 years, we can be among the four best teams in the world. At least we lived up to the minimum objective.''
Argentina will be pitted against Netherlands, who defeated Costa Rica 4 - 3 on penalties, at Arena de Sao Paulo in Sao Paulo on Wednesday.
