Vitor Belfort's next fight will likely be for the UFC middleweight title according to company president Dana White.
In a report by The Los Angeles Times, the outspoken UFC executive declared that "The Phenom" is going to be the next in line for Chris Weidman's belt.
"I think what's next and what everybody would like to see - what I'd like to see and what you'd like to see - is probably Vitor Belfort," White explained during the UFC 175 press conference. "So, let's see what happens with Vitor. If this guy can get his business handled."
By "getting his business handled", White meant that for Vitor Belfort's next fight to be licensed, he has to resolve his issues with the Nevada Athletic Commission, who banned the use of Testosterone Replacement Therapy.
Because Vitor Belfort was on TRT for his supposed fight against Chris Weidman, he was removed from the card, and was replaced by Lyoto Machida. For their part, the Nevada Athletic Commission scheduled another hearing for "The Phenom" for July 23rd, but the Brazilian middleweight contender has yet to give his agreement for the said event.
Instead, Vitor Belfort's has clamored for his next fight to be against Chris Weidman, right after Saturday's UFC 175 main event, wherein the "All-American" was able to successfully defend his belt.
"Now I want what I deserve, MY [TITLE] SHOT!!! Don't run away!! No excuses," Belfort said through Twitter.
Even Lyoto Machida, who fought Chris Weidman on Saturday night believes that Vitor Belfort's next fight should be for the title.
"Logically, he's next in line," Machida simply said in a pre-UFC 175 interview with FOX Sports.
However, Chris Weidman's trainer Ray Longo gave out some words of advise for "The Phenom" before challenging his fighter's title.
"Play by the rules, man up, don't be a liar," Longo said. "You've got kids, you're lying to everybody."
"Play by the rules, and Weidman will fight him any day of the week," he added.
