After rocking out in Vancouver last week, the Queen and Adam Lambert Tour 2014, brought their spectacular show to the Forum at Los Angeles last Thursday night. Various reviews of their shows have been positive so far, calling out the American Idol alum as a fitting new frontman for the legendary rock band.
They performed the same set in LA as their previous shows but Lindsey Parker of Reality Rocks reports that it was Lambert's humility and not his bravado or showmanship that converted cynical critics in the crowd.
Although his theatrical background perfectly fit Queen's legendary on-stage glamor, he didn't steal the show from the original members, Brian May and Roger Taylor.
He, in fact, showed respect to the iconic group's original frontman by asking the audience to cheer for Freddie Mercury, letting a virtual Freddie take over the second verse in "Bohemian Rhapsody," and stepping aside for May and Taylor's solos.
Queen's guitarist, May sat down for an acoustic version of "Love Of My Life," performing a duet with a building-sized video of the respected frontman. Taylor, on the other hand, sang "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" with another vintage footage of Freddie in the background.
According to Parker, Lambert performed in "a certain likable somebody-pinch-me-I'm-singing-with-my-heroes giddiness" that made the crowd cheer for him. He was "absolutely the right man to front a new, different version of Queen in 2014. And that's pretty fabulous."
Parker also wrote in the review, "It was an attitude that made the audience root for Adam, as fans were reminded that in some ways, he's still that same hopeful, starry-eyed kid who stood in line to try out for a TV talent show, somehow wound up onstage with Queen at the Season 8 [American] Idol finale living out his rock 'n' roll fantasies, and simply can't believe his good fortune even five years later."
No Doubt's Tony Kanal and Adrian Young, The Foo Fighters' Taylor Hawkins, actress Lisa Rinna, and Lambert's fellow Idol alum Allison Iraheta attended and enjoyed the LA leg of the Queen and Adam Lambert Tour 2014.
Brian May also expressed his satisfaction of the show on Twitter, writing, "That was an amazing night. Thanks LA folks - a great audience inspires great things !!! Wonderful to be back," along with a photo of the stage.
