Despite the negative attention she received for drug abuse trials last year, actress Park Si Yeon has signed on for a new drama, "The Greatest Marriage."
And "The Last Knights," a film she previously worked on, is on the schedule for the Toronto Film Festival in September.
Park Si Yeon has not worked in Korea since last fall. Along with actresses Lee Seung Yeon and Jang Mi In Ae, she appeared in Seoul Central District Court in 2013 regarding their alleged abuse of the sleep-inducing drug propofol.
Also called the "milk of amnesia," the controversial anesthetic may produce a sense of euphoria. The drug was implicated in the death of superstar Michael Jackson.
Park Si Yeon, who starred in the drama "Nice Guy," reportedly used the drug 185 times. Her doctor testified that he originally prescribed the drug to help her cope with the ongoing pain caused by injuries she received while she was filming "Marine Boy" and "Dachimawa Lee." Although the injuries were treated, the disabling pain lingered.
The court ruled that while Park may have received a prescription for the drug, she had become dependent. She was ordered to pay a $4,000 fine and serve two years probation. MBC and KBS banned her from appearing in their dramas
Park gave birth to her first child in September 2013 and for the last eight months has focused on caring for her child.
But now she's ready to go back to work and will appear on both the small and big screen this year.
Her upcoming drama, "The Greatest Marriage," is the story of four couples and their relationships. But those relationships also happen in relation to the story of a woman whose decision to become a single mother affects her career. In "The Greatest Marriage," Park will play the successful TV journalist. After her character decides to become a single mother, her life becomes more difficult than she could ever imagine.
Actors Bae Soo Bin and No Min Woo have also been cast in the drama. No Min Woo will play a rich boy who works as a reporter. Bae Soo Bin, who last year wowed audiences with his performance as the corrupt prosecutor in "Secrets," will play a talented TV journalist. These roles suggest a love triangle.
And while she appears on the small screen, the actress will be seen on theater screens around the world.
Park Si Yeon's film "The Last Knights" is a Korean-American co-production, which also stars Clive Owen, Morgan Freeman and Ahn Sung Ki. It will premiere in Korea in 2015.
