Manny Pacquiao news reveals promoter Bob Arum's doubts about the chances of "Pacman" getting to fight Amir Khan.
Manny Pacquiao is scheduled to fight in November, with Macau, China as the possible venue. With no named opponent yet, former two-time light welterweight champion and former sparring partner Amir Khan stepped in to challenge the eight-division world title.
"We are both fighting next in November or December, so everything is perfect for us to fight," Khan told The National about the Manny Pacquiao news. "It's speed, explosiveness and entertainment from both fighters, and that is what fans want from boxing right now.
However, Top Rank Promoter Bob Arum is skeptical about the said fight, considering that no formal intention was made known by the Khan camp.
"We can't sign anything for him to fight Pacquiao until we look at his contracts," Arum explained the Manny Pacquiao news. "For example, for all I know he might have a contract that says all his fights have to be on Showtime. I don't know if that's true or not."
The 82-year old boxing promoter also noted that "King Khan's" camp originally showed interest but suddenly changed their minds when Top Rank reached out to them.
"But when we reached out to him a month ago, we said, 'We're not interested in the amounts [specified in Khan's contracts], but redact those numbers and send us the contract so we can see if we can even talk to you about a Pacquiao fight.' And we got nothing in return," Arum added.
Despite the uncertainty of the situation, however, Bob Arum still believes that Amir Khan's interest in fight Manny Pacquiao will not be deterred.
"I think he wants the fight," Arum continued. "He wants a [big] fight. He wants a fight with Mayweather. He wants a fight with Pacquiao. He wants to fight which is going to raise his image and get him some decent money. But wanting it and going about it the right way are two different things."
