After the tight quarterfinal match against Brazil on Friday, the Colombia squad headed home to Bogota on Sunday after their historic run to the quarterfinals and was warmly welcomed by thousands of supporters to the point that a heavy police presence was needed to guard the team. The incredible support that was shown by their fans was indeed an incredible heroes' welcome. The streets were packed and flooded with people despite the fact that they were beaten 2-1 by Brazil.

"We are very happy here waiting for our great team, we are winners for having reached this point of the tournament," Eduardo, a fan accompanied by his two daughters, told reporters.

James Rodriguez still stands out with his spectacular performance scoring a total of six goals, thus, he remains to be the tournament's top scorer plus he scored in all the five of Los Cafeteros' matched in Brazil.

Being celebrated as heroes, even Colombia's president sent a message for the athletes and entire team expressing his gratitude "for so much joy and teaching us how to dream".

This is the fifth time that Colombia appeared and participated in the World Cup since 1998.
