The "22 Jump Street" full movie is admittedly a Hill-and-Tatum flick, and you should watch the film with this in mind to fully appreciate it.
Excerpt from the film:
Schmidt: "Man, What did you say back there?"
Jenko: "Something Cool"
Schmidt: "Yeah, what did you say?"
Jenko: "Something Cool man"
Schmidt: "Yeah, but what did you say"
Jenko: "I said something cool"
A sequel to the 80's show remake is a no-brainer, considering the box-office success of "21 Jump Street." Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum's combination proved to be a hit to adolescent (and female) audiences, and their chemistry was authentic on-screen and in real life, which helped.
If something's not broken, then don't try to fix it; "22 Jump Street" is formulaic, and unashamedly so. Critic reviews were mixed and torn, but most admit the movie doesn't pose as the year's next big action flick or Oscar contender. It's as much theater fodder as popcorn and soft drinks, and it shamelessly owns up to the reputation.
The movie runs for 1 hour, 52 minutes, and some question if the length gives justice to a comedy sequel; following up on blockbuster hits is a Hollywood dilemma, especially when it comes to comedies. The "22 Jump Street" full movie is long and at times dragging, frustrating if not for Hill and Tatum's slapstick performances.
Jason Brocket of alamogordonews.com comments on the plot: "Directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller did not do any script revisions because of their commitment to last year's 'The Lego Movie.' Instead, they decided to write the credits sequence at the end of the film, which I thought was more creative than the movie itself."
Reviews at rottentomatoes.com are more forgiving. Edward Boxler: "An honest parody of movie franchise sequels, '22 Jump Street' has no preconceived notions that it's a telling the same story in a slightly different way. But its directors (who also did 'Clone High', '21 Jump Street', and 'The Lego Movie') know how to entertain."
The "22 Jump Street" full movie is now available as online stream, to be announced for official home release.
