Which of these smartphones is the ideal purchase for consumers? We pit the HTC One XL against the Google Nexus 5 to see which is better.

In terms of display, The HTC One XL has a slightly bigger screen than its competitor, having a 4.7 inches Super IPS LCD2 display that renders a resolution of 720x1280pixels. The smartphone weighs 129 grams and has the following dimensions: 134.8×69.9×8.9mm.

The Nexus 5 on the other hand has 4.95 inch True HD IPS+ display which can render a resolution of 1080×1920pixels. It is 1 gram heavier than its competitor, and its dimensions are 137.9×69.2×8.6 mm

For the hardware and OS, the HTC One XL has a 1.5GHz dual core Krait processor and has a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset. It has 32GB of internal storage, which isn't expandable and runs on the Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS (upgradeable to Jelly Bean) with 1GB of RAM

Meanwhile,the Nexus 5 has a quad core krait 400 processor, which is clocked at 2.3GHz. It has a Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 chipset and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage, also unexpandable. It runs on the Android KitKat OS with 2GB of RAM.

For battery usage and camera specs, both smartphones have Li-Po non-removable batteries, but with different capacities: the HTC One XL has a 1800mAh battery, while the Nexus 5 has a 2300mAh battery, with which users can talk for about 17 hours on 3G.

Both smartphones are equipped with an 8MP rear camera, sharing common features such as LED flash and autofocus. In addition, the Nexus 5 features optical stabilization. Plus, they have a front camera of the same resolution of 1.3MP.

The HTC One XL is worth $283, while the Nexus 5 is around $443.
