As the Oscar Pistorius trial reaches its final stretch, Reeva Steenkamp's mother, June, revealed her thoughts about the whole ordeal to Hello! magazine. The biggest celebrity case in South Africa is nearing its end a year after Pistorius allegedly shot his girlfriend on Valentines day.
Pistorius' defense team had argued that the incident had been an accidental shooting, after falsely believing that his girlfriend was an intruder hiding in the bathroom
Mrs. Steenkamp told the magazine that she has "forgiven" the South African Paralympic gold medalist for killing her daughter in 2013. However, she will still see the trial through, believing that a verdict will help the 29-year-old model 'rest in peace.'
"I don't hate Oscar," the grieving mother told Hello! "I've forgiven him. I have to, that's my religion. But I am determined to face him and reclaim my daughter."
She believes that she needs to be there during the whole trial to represent her departed daughter.
"It's important for him to know I'm there, that Reeva's mother who gave birth to her and loved her, is there for her," she adds.
Mrs. Steenkamp told the magazine that she can still feel her daughter's presence around her, despite being gone for over a year. She also continues to talk to Reeva, believing that her spirit will only rest when the trial comes to an end.
She adds, "I trust that God will prevail and justice will be done. All we want is the truth."
On the other hand, Reeva's sister, Simone believes the total opposite from her mother's. She called Oscar Pistorius a "disgusting liar" in April 2014 a few days after a video came out of the athlete reenacting the night he shot Reeva in her Pretoria home.
"During the adjournments he marched around as if he was still a star while my mother and I just wanted to hide away. I don't understand how anyone could commit that act-kill someone-and behave like that," Simone told the Daily Mail in April.
The Oscar Pistorius trial will resume on Tuesday morning.
