In place of Thiago Silva, Scolari puts David Luiz as the team captain of Brazil. After the humiliating 7-1 loss against Germany in the semi-finals Luiz apologized to his compatriots for not making it to the finals. "Apologies to all the Brazilian people. I just wanted to see my people smile." he said tearfully.
He admitted that their opponents were better than them, but it was also a day from which to learn. The team's collapsed was described to be a total blackout and the defeat was inexplicable. The expectations from host Brazil in this year's World Cup were rather too high given that aside from the home field advantage, they were World Cup champion in 2002 and were 14 times undefeated in the previous matches before coming face-to-face with Germany.
"Luiz gave one of the worst performances I have ever seen, I still feel sorry for him coming off the pitch in tears." Alan Hansen, a three-time European Cup winner with Liverpool said describing Luiz's performance.
In lieu of this event, Brazil coach Scolari took the responsibility for this rather embarrassing defeat. He admitted that the line-up was his decision and the tactics the team used were his choice. He said that he will be remembered as the coach to lose 7-1, but he also knew that risk when he took the job.
Today, the Brazilian hearts are not only broken with Neymar's back but with the entire team as well. Despite the loss, the fans will continue to support the team and the pride of their country. This is not the end for Brazil, this is but another opportunity to learn from the mistakes that have been committed and get better for the next World Cup. Surely, the world will be looking forward for Brazil's come back in 2018.
