Which of these smartphones is the best choice for consumers? We pit the iPhone 5, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Nexus 5 to see which is worth the purchase.

In terms of design and display, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a Super AMOLED display that measures 5.1 inches and renders a resolution of 1080 x 1920. Its dimensions are 142 x 72.5 x 8.1 mm and weighs 145 grams.

Apple's iPhone 5 has a smaller (4 inches) IPS LCD display that is LED-backlit and renders a lesser resolution of 640 x 1136 pixels. It has the following dimensions: 123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm and weighs 112 grams.

The Nexus 5 has a True HD IPS+ display that measures 4.95 inches, which makes it bigger than the Apple unit, but smaller than the Samsung unit. It renders the same resolution as the Galaxy S5: 1080 x 1920 pixels. Its dimensions are 137.9 x 69.2 x 8.6 which makes it the thickest between the three, but it is not the heaviest (weight: 130 grams).

For the hardware and OS, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is powered by a Krait 400 processor (quad core working at 2.5 GHz) paired up with the Snapdragon 801 MSM8974AC chipset from Qualcomm. It supports 2GB of RAM with two internal storage options: 16GB and 32GB (if you choose to use a microSD card, you can expand this memory by up to 128GB) and runs on the Android KitKaat.

The iPhone 5 is equipped with a Swift processor (dual core working at 1.3 GHz) and it is paired with the Apple A6 chipset. It only supports 1GB of RAM, but it comes with three options for internal memory: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB (there is no microSD slot). The smartphone runs on the iOS 6 (upgradable to iOS 7).

The Nexus 5 has a Krait 400 processor (quad core that works at 2.3 GHz) , teaming-up with the Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 chipset from Qualcomm. Same as the Galaxy S5, the Google smartphone comes with a 2GB of RAM and two variants for internal storage capacity: 16GB and 32GB. The only difference is that it does not offer a microSD card slot, hence the memory is not expandable. It also runs on the Android KitKat.

For battery usage, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is the best choice among the three. It houses a Li-Ion battery unit with a capacity of 2800 mAh which is estimated to last around 20 hours of talking time. The Nexus 5 has a Li-Po 2300 mAh battery unit that can last up to 17 hours of talking time (3G). Finally, iPhone 5 shows off a Li-Po 1440 mAh battery that is approximated to last around 8 hours of talking time (3G).

In addition, both Google’s and Apple’s smartphones come with non removable batteries.

For camera specs, the Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 16MP rear camera (autofocus + LED flash) and a 2MP front camera.

Meanwhile,the Nexus 5 and iPhone 5 have similar rear-facing camera: 8MP camera with features like autofocus, optical image stabilization and LED flash. However they have different secondary cameras: the iPhone 5 has a 1.2MP camera, while the Nexus 5 is equipped with a 1.3MP shooter.

Apple's iPhone 5 (16 GB) cost around $459.00, the Samsung Galaxy S5 (16GB) cost $575.00 and finallt the Nexus 5 (16 GB) is worth $380.88.
