Microsoft is indeed working on its new operating system, which is believed to be Windows 9. According to various reports, they are preparing this new OS for its introduction later this year.

The intruiging thing about Windows 9 is its entirely new activation system that would help microsoft battle against software piracy, which would encourage more users to get the legitimate license. According to the details given by WZor, Microsoft have to make this decision following the problems they had with China, where 90% copies of Windows are pirated. Here are the details of Microsoft's new activation scheme for Windows 9.

The idea is that Microsoft will force all users who install Windows 9 to create a Microsoft account and associate the purchased product key with it. Once installed, the operating system gets users to the store where they will perform the activation automatically, so the buyer won't see the license key. Since everything's embedded, the operating system is more difficult to crack.

If the user has to change the computer or reinstall the operating system, they have to go to the store first and remove the current activation. A special download from Microsoft will enable users to burn Windows 9 to a disk or create a bootable USB drive will also be offered in order to make the whole process smoother whenever such tasks need to be performed.

The only drawback once Windows 9 is activated is that the store is going to keep the user's information, such as name, address, as well as billing information in order to better associate a specific license with a computer. Obviously, some may find this unacceptable, but the company is working to make this very secure.

Windows 9 will run flawlessly for a maximum of 3 days. However, if the user fails Windows 9 to activate their copy, they cannot boot anymore. The activation basically requires an Internet connection, but phone activation is likely to be offered as a secondary option.

All the details are still just rumors. Microsoft still has to confirm whether they will implement this new activation sytem or not.
