The second installment of the Divergent movie franchise, Insurgent, is still being filmed, but plans for the third movie Allegiant is well underway.

Reports say that Noah Oppenheim, who adapted young adult novel The Maze Runner to the big screen, will be writing the screenplay based on the successful series by Veronica Roth. Allegiant will be shown in two parts, and Oppenheim is on board for the first part.

The Divergent movie has had quite a successful run at the box office. Based on the book that author Veronica Roth finished while completing her creative writing course at Northwestern University, the Divergent movie version starred Shailene Woodley and Kate Winslet. Production on the film cost $85 million, but the movie grossed $268 million worldwide.

The second and third installments of the Divergent movie franchise were quickly confirmed. The sequel, Insurgent, will debut in cinemas on March 20, 2015, while Allegiant: Part 1 will be shown a year later on March 18, 2016. Allegiant: Part 2 is slated o March 24, 2017.

New cast members to watch out for in Insurgent are Naomi Watts and Octavia Spencer. Robert Schwentke takes over the helm of this movie from director Neil Burger.

The concluding book that Oppenheim will adapt for the big screen revolves around Tris (Woodley) and Four (James) as they uncover truths about the world that have so far known. It will bring them to make very difficult decisions that could drastically change the course of their lives would take.

And if there's one writer who could handle such a climactic conclusion to the Divergent movie franchise, it's Oppenheim. Recently penning the screenplay for The Mazer Runner, which is based on the sci-fi young adult novel by James Dashner, the movie has created much buzz for its September release. Oppenheim has also served as TV producer in shows such as The Buried Life, and Today.
