New "Bond 24" news suggest that fans will have to wait a little longer for the movie's release date since changes were made to the script.
In a Radio Times interview, actor John Cleese (formerly Q in "The World is Not Enough" and "Die Another Day") shared his observations with the new James Bond flicks that star Brit hottie Daniel Craig.
"I did two James Bond movies, and then I believe that they decided that the tone they needed was that of the Bourne action movies, which are very gritty and humourless."
"Also the big money was coming from Asia, from the Philippines, Vietnam, Indonesia, where the audiences go to watch the action sequences, and that's why in my opinion the action sequences go on for too long, and it's a fundamental flaw. The audiences in Asia are not going for the subtle British humour or the class jokes," he said.
The James Bond movies Cleese was part of proved to be blockbuster hits. But, these movies starring Pierce Brosnan as James Bond was seen as "silly" and "over the top" by many.
"Although financially successful, the films were seen as increasingly silly and over the top, prompting a paring-back of the gadgets and quips for the subsequent Daniel Craig era. The strategy worked: the most recent instalment, Skyfall, became the highest-grossing film ever at the UK box office and made $1.1bn worldwide. Q returned to the series in Skyfall after being absent for two films, but was played rather more soberly by Ben Whishaw," said a report on The Guardian.
However, proving that a little fun might do no harm, new reports claim that the script is currently being rewritten to include some humor and wit.
Original writer John Logan has already written the script for "Bond 24." But, director Sam Mendes was not completely satisfied with it so he asked Neal Purvis and Robert Wade to do some necessary fix-me-ups.
A source claims: "Purvis and Wade have been asked to 'punch up' the script and sprinkle in more gags, emphasising the witty repartee between Daniel Craig's 007 and Naomie Harris's Miss Moneypenny, and focusing on the interplay between Bond and Ralph Fiennes's M."
This latest development has pushed back the movie's filming from October to December. And it might follow that "Bond 24" will hit the big screens on a later 2015 date.
According to a Yahoo blog: "The need for a rewrite implies that Logan's screenplay, while solid, might've been a tad too serious, whereas 007 adventures have always had a satisfying blend of quips, one-liners and playful banter from the lead characters, as well as a serious, real undertone, especially in the latter releases - 'Casino Royale' being a particularly raw and gritty example."
