Bible adaptations continue with King David by Ridley Scott; production is at it's earliest stages, though Scott's involvement in the project gives it more street cred than "Noah" ever will.
Film franchises have gone the way of adaptations in recent years, starting with films from the Marvel and DC Universes. These proved to be a lucrative venture for the studios, with the occasional flops considered.
"Noah" released this year to a very expectant audience. Although reaction to the adaptation ranged from inspiration to ridicule, the movie is proof that adaptations are possible if the cards are played right.
Reports of a new Ridley Scott film are never ignored, and news that he's set his eyes on the biblical King David immediately caused a stir. The project is still in development with only rumors and speculation to offer.
A film based on The Exodus is set for release this winter. "Exodus: Gods and Kings" is an adaptation of the Moses and Ramses II story, of the ten plagues and the parted Red Sea.
Initial reports peg Jonathan Stokes ("Gringo," "Blood Mountain") for the movie's screenplay, and the story will revolve around David's reign as king, after he defeated Goliath (moviepilot.com).
David by Ridley Scott has the workings of trilogy, and there's enough material to give it legs. Although details of the story are yet to be confirmed, it's possible to separate David's life into the Goliath, King Saul, and the Bathsheba, Absalom phases.
Scott is currently working on a handful of projects, including a follow-up to "Prometheus," "The Martian," and a film about football concussions. It's unlikely he'll have time to direct the Bible adaptation, with his hands tightly tied.
The project is a reported collaboration between 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment, the same outfit which co-produced on "Exodus," which comes out on theaters December 20 (comingsoon.net).
