The CW's "The Vampire Diaries" spinoff, "The Originals" will be getting its own book series. The Emmy-nominated show scored a three-book deal with Harlequin, according to USA Today last Monday.
With the series receiving recognition during the latter half of its first season run, it seems a given to adapt a book based on the show. "The Originals" is the only CW show to earn a nomination for the Emmy Awards this year.
Coincidentally, its mother series, "The Vampire Diaries" was adapted from a book series of the same name by L.J. Smith. Smith, however, will not be involved with the "The Originals" books. The trilogy will be written by Josh Bank and Hayley Wagreich.
"The Originals" books will not, however, be novel versions of the TV drama. They will feature all-new stories of the first ever vampires in history Klaus (Joseph Morgan), Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and Rebecca Michaelson (Claire Holt).
Harlequin aims to release the books in 2015. The first book will come out in February, the next one in April, with the third one will likely to coincide with season two's finale.
Last season's final episode saw the werewolf Hayley (Pheobe Tonkin) giving birth to her and Klaus' hybrid daughter and promises a darker, bloodier season two. Previous news have hinted more blood spillage but not racy scenes. Producer Julie Plec had promised to draw the line at the gore.
Season two of the Michaelson saga will premiere later this year on October 6, Monday at 8PM EST. The filming is currently underway with Plec informing fans that she has been doing "homework" for "The Originals" an assurance for the upcoming season's premiere.
The series is already in production but the cast and crew will reportedly take a break later this month. The team will be flying to San Diego for Comic Con. The Michaelons as well as Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis (Marcel Gerard), Danielle Campbell (Davina Claire), and Leah Pipes (Cami O'Connell) will be joining the panel.
