Manny Pacquiao news reveals "Pacman's" official opponent, Chris Algieri, for his next major showdown in Macau, China. Like the majority of the eight-division world champion's fights, the newly made bout will be aired in HBO.
The Manny Pacquiao news was reported by ESPN's Dan Rafael, who was also able to speak with Top Rank Promotions head honcho Bob Arum.
"We have a deal. On my end, it wasn't a hard deal at all," Arum said. "I came up pretty much with what they were looking for and then Joe and Artie had to sit down with Algieri and cut it up fairly amongst themselves."
Currently undefeated with a record of 20-0 with eight wins coming via knockout, Chris Algieri last fought in mid-June against stable mate Ruslan Provodnikov. Despite being knocked down twice, he was still able to come out victorious via unanimous decision.
Fighting a boxer of Manny Pacquiao's caliber will be the first for Chris Algieri, who expressed his excitement after the official announcement was made. The Huntington, New York spoke through one of his promoters, Joe DeGuardia about the Manny Pacquiao news.
"He's very happy. He's happy for the opportunity," DeGuardia answered. "I'm ecstatic we've been able to give him this. It's a great feeling. You work hard you develop him up the ranks."
"He fought off TV for a long time, he got on TV and now this," he added. "It's really rewarding to see him get this opportunity and a payday that will change his life."
Chris Algieri is currently fighting at 140 pounds at light welterweight, but says he is willing to move up to 147 to face Manny Pacquiao at welterweight if needed. For the 30-year old fight, a win over "Pacman" will definitely bring him up the ladder in boxing.
"He wanted to fight for another championship and he loves that he is fighting Manny Pacquiao for it," DeGuardia continued. "He looks as Manny as an elite of the game. He wants to climb another mountain. If he wins this fight, you have the start of another era."
