Miguel Cotto's next fight will most likely be against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, says Golden Boy Promotions chief Oscar De La Hoya.

The 1992 Barcelona Olympics gold medalist spoke to RingTV right after his most prized fighter Saul "Canelo" Alvarez handily defeated Erislandy Lara on Saturday night.

"'Canelo' wants to fight the very best and he's going to continue to do so," De La Hoya said. "Our options are wide open. Obviously, Cotto's on the list."

The possibility of Miguel Cotto's next fight to be against Canelo Alvarez came about after "Junito" defeated Sergio Martinez in early-June for the lineal middleweight titles of the WBC and The Ring Magazine. "The Golden Boy" was all praises about Miguel Cotto's performance.

"Cotto looked sensational at a higher weight class," De La Hoya said in an interview after the Cotto vs. Martinez fight. "He looked like a relentless attacking machine."

"The whole world will now be watching Canelo vs. Lara live on Showtime Pay Per View on July 12 to see Canelo fight," he added.

After Canelo Alvarez fought Erislandy Lara, Oscar De La Hoya is more optimistic about his fighter's options and their chances of getting the fights that they want. The match-up against Miguel Cotto is one of the possibilities, considering that Golden Boy Promotions has began to patch things up with rival Top Rank, who promotes "Junito's" fights.

"Canelo is hungry right now and he calls the shots," De La Hoya continued. "I'll be sitting down with Canelo and we'll be going over strategy on what Canelo wants."

"Canelo has all of the options out there," he said. "I'm opening the door for everyone."

De La Hoya added that Canelo Alvarez would be an interesting option for Miguel Cotto's next fight, considering the age-old rivalry between Mexico and Puerto Rico.

"I would love to work with Cotto Promotions on a possible Canelo-Cotto fight," De La Hoya said right after the Cotto-Martinez fight.
