The Lumia Cyan platform seems to be having some trouble with those who decided to upgrade their phones to WIndows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview. The latest platform upgrade is set roll out to Nokia handset owners running Windows Phone OS.

The issue has something to do with the BitLocker and makes the phones unusable during the upgrade process. They will keep hanging on boot, and displays a message for users to connect the device to a Windows PC.

Being aware of the situation, Miscrosoft has decided to suspend the launch of Lumia Cyan for those users who have smartphones with Windows Phone 8.1 installed, at least until the developers find the root of the problem and fix it.

Additionally, the company notes that Lumia phones users should revert their handsets to a commercial platform iteration prior to installing Lumia Cyan.

As mentioned, the problem only shows up on handsets with BitLocker enabled. This feature was available for Windows Phone devices as an enterprise feature, meant to provide users with full disk encryption. This means that only a handful of users should be affected, considering that not all companies might have allowed their workers to update their handsets to Windows Phone 8.1 Developer Preview individually. Moreover, the Lumia Cyan upgrade is presently available to Lumia 625 and Lumia 925 handsets, so the number of affected users should not be that large at all.

Not all is lost for those experiencing this issue as a fix is available, though it needs a full reset of the Windows Phone smartphone using Nokia's Software Recovery Tool. As soon as the handset has been reset, everything should work normally.

Keep in mind that those of you who update from Windows Phone 8 GDR3 should not be impacted by the aforementioned problem. Unfortunately, there's no telling how long Microsoft will need in order to resolve the issue, but more on the matter should emerge soon, so stay tuned.
