Falcon is now the new Captain America in the upcoming Marvel film, as the studio announced the historic change.

Marvel announced that Falcon is the new Captain America when it hits theaters this fall, because Steve Rogers aka Captain America will no longer be donning the Star-Spangled suit, but will be replaced by a black character, Sam Wilson.

The announcement was made in the late-night show Colbert Report and Marvel's move to do so is looking at making a greater diversity in its roster of famous superheroes, The Independent said.

Marvel character Falcon appeared in the most recent Captain America movie installment, "Winter Soldier," who has a winged suit, enabling him to fly along with his telepathic ability to connect with birds.

How would Steve Rogers bestow the Captain America suit to the Falcon?

If based on the comic book series of Captain America, The Guardian reported, Rogers will lose his power by fighting against his worst foe to date, Iron Nail. He will be defeated and drained by his super soldier serum injectable that keeps him youthful and strong and will live as a fainting, wrinkled old man.

Because of this, he needs to find a successor, thus passing the star-and-stripes costume to his friend and Falcon becomes the new Captain America. In the course of his bestowment, Falcon will be trained by ex-Cap Steve Rodgers to be able to fight terrorist group, Hydra.

The change in the characters will somehow shake thing up a bit, as the two superheroes and their human alter egos are far different personality-wise.

"He's a modern day man in touch with the problems of the 21st century. For most of his professional life, Sam has worked as a social worker, so he's seen the worst of urban society up close, and how crime, poverty, lack of social structure and opportunity can affect the community. So he's got perhaps a greater focus on the plight of the common man, and perhaps a greater empathy for the underprivileged than maybe even Steve himself," said Rick Remender, the author of the upcoming Captain America comic book series.

Marvel's news about Falcon being the new Captain America suit is made just right after the comic giant announced that Thor, another Marvel superhero will be a woman in succeeding comics and movie adaptation.
