Selena Gomez's cryptic messages and photos take a back seat as the Come Get It singer snaps a shot of her new ink, which comes with a significant and emotional message.

The 21-year-old songstress has a new tattoo on the upper right side of her back, inked by celebrity tattoo artist Bang Bang McCurdy. It's an Arabian script that translates to "Love Yourself First."

She posted the photo showing off the new tattoo on her Instagram account last July 16 with the caption, "Art by @bangbangnyc --from my first to my last. It's always this fool."

"She had been wanting this one for a while," the tattoo artist, who has worked with various celebrities, including Gomez' former boyfriend, Justin Bieber, told E! News, also adding that Gomez had the tattoo done "about a month ago."

He also posted a photo of the tattoo on his Instagram account, saying, "Little gift for my friend @selenagomez".

"Selena already had it written out how she wanted," McCurdy said. "The tattoo is about 4 inches, and didn't take too long, probably around 30-45 minutes. The longest part is laying it out. We played with it a bit laying it out, until we found the perfect spot."

Gomez reportedly loved the tattoo so much, with McCurdy saying "She loved it; she flipped out!"

But this isn't the former Disney darling's first tattoo. According to McCurdy, the Spring Breakers star already "has 5-6 tattoos now," three of which he made himself.

Of course, speculations quickly rose as to whether the tattoo was Gomez' subtle dig at her equally famous ex, Justin Bieber. The two, who broke up in 2013 has had an on-and-off relationship since early this year. Perhaps it's a sign that she's no longer going back to his arms and is now focused on prioritizing herself first?
