Bethesda’s Pete Hines has just announced that The Evil Within will be coming earlier than planned. While the game was planned for an October 21st release, it is now scheduled for an October 14th release. According to Hines, Shinji Mikami asked for some time in order to enhanced and polish its title but it appears that the game is ready earlier than anticipated.
Developed by Shinji Mikami – creator of the seminal Resident Evil series – and the talented team at Tango Gameworks, The Evil Within embodies the meaning of pure survival horror.
In The Evil Within, players will experience a disturbing reality as you try to break free from warped machinations that could only exist in the most horrifying worlds.
“Players will face twisted creatures and experience true terror, all heightened by cutting edge lighting and animation made possible by a customized version of the id Tech 5 engine.”
The Evil Within is the first game from Tango Gameworks, which was founded in 2010 by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami and later acquired by Bethesda owner ZeniMax Media. It is known in Japan as Psychobreak.
The Evil Within stars Detective Sebastian Castellanos who, as previously revealed, encounters "a mysterious and powerful force" that brutally kills his colleagues. Detective Sebastian and his partners, Joseph Oda and Julie Kidman arrive at a crime scene only to find the place being deserted. Sebastian witnesses a hooded figure massacring fellow police officers one by one. A mysterious figure then appears behind Sebastian and attacks him, rendering him unconscious. He later wakes up finding himself trapped in a land where dangerous creatures dwell and has to fight his way through the world of death and his close friend's madness in order to understand what is going on.
In the first The Evil Within preview, "The Evil Within is a welcome return to survival horror. It mixes the over-the-shoulder combat (and chainsaw-wielding nutters) of Resident Evil 4 with the grim, psychological horror of Silent Hill, and the id Tech-powered visuals are beautifully atmospheric."
