Former L.A. Galaxy and Manchester United soccer star David Beckham at Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Sports Awards received his gold mohawked blimp while covered in gold slime during the annual ceremony aired live at 8 p.m. ET/ 5 p.m. from UCLA's Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles.
"When I was young my dream was to be a professional soccer player," said David Beckham at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Sports Awards, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.
While advising the young crowd to always follow their dreams, Beckham was joined onstage by sons Romeo and Cruz. It was then when the serious speech of Victoria "Posh Spice" Beckham's husband came to an end as Nickelodeon's signature slime was doused on him and his kids.
Instead of the usual green slime though, gold goo was doused on the awardee.
The sliming of David Beckham at the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Sports Awards was among the many highlights of the annual event. The event was hosted by former Super Bowl champ Michael Strahan, who was first to get slimed even before awarding began.
Also slimed were Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, who dunked Seattle Seahawks defensive back Earl Thomas III in a giant tank of green goo.
Musical performances were also given by Pharrell Williams and Florida Georgia Line.
Show host Strahan also revealed to The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday why he was excited to be part of the Nickelodeon event.
"I have kids and I have always watched the show and it is fun - it's always a good time. My kids have always watched Nickelodeon and actually my twins are going participate - they are going to be my assistants. I always think about what will make them happy and I think the biggest thing is if they get Daddy slimed," he told said.
"What makes it special is that it's the kids voting rather than a group of suits giving out the awards. The balance between fun and authenticity is really important as well," Stewart said.
