Taylor Lautner is determined to leave his days of being known as the brooding werewolf in the Twilight saga behind. With some failed attempts at distancing himself from his popular role in the vampire franchise, with movies such as Valentine's Day and Abduction, Lautner again will try out his fortune, this time doing a comedy role.

The 22-year old actor will play a crazy, slapstick character in the new season of BBC 3's Cuckoo. It's a role that he will be taking over form Saturday Night Live's Andy Samberg, whose presence on the show certainly contributed to its staggering success.

Samberg played a New Age wacko, brought home by his British girlfriend, much to the chagrin of her parents. The show had a record breaking 1.27 million viewership when it debuted on the BBC 3 channel last September 2014.

Lautner will be playing the role of Samberg's son. According to The Guardian, the Twilight star will be playing "mysterious young stranger who shows up in Lichfield, Staffordshire," where the show is set.

The original Cuckoo, played by Samberg, as it turns out has died. The character was shown to have disappeared at the end of season 1 shortly after a trip to the Himalayas. As Lautner says in the trailer, "I travelled halfway across the world to find my father and it turns out he's dead. Oh well, gotta keep smiling!"

In the trailer as well, we see a shirtless Taylor Lautner, always a welcome sight to his throngs of female fans. In the clip, actress Rachel Thompsons says to Lautner's character, "We don't tend to use the bathroom together here."

"Alright, well, I'll catch you later," Lautner replies and then accidentally drops his towel, which Thompson's character in open-mouthed shock.

Some parts of the trailer also show Lautner fully bearded, and almost unrecognizable.

Cuckoo also stars actress Helen Baxendale, comedian Greg Davies, Tamla Kari and Outnumbered star Tyger Drew-Honey.
