A year ago, a media maelstrom swirled around a hospital in London with the impending arrival of a baby third in line to the throne, and it is still a memorable event in British history.

As Prince George of Cambridge turns one, the media frenzy for all things George is once again awakened, making the young lad on magazine cover as well as on lists of the world's "most eligible toddlers," in the process. This gives the House of Windsor an increase in public relations that no amount of advertising could possibly buy.

Two new pictures of the third in line to the throne have been released to mark the occasion: One shows Prince George transfixed by a butterfly, while the second one shows him with his mother and father, staring at something above their heads.

In a given statement, the duke and duchess thanked people for their "warm and generous good wishes". The couple said, "We would like to take this opportunity on George's first birthday to thank everyone over the last year, wherever we have met them, both at home and overseas, for their warm and generous good wishes to George and our family."

The duke and duchess should be holding a birthday party for the young prince at their Kensington Palace apartment, he may be playing on a new slide during the celebration. Jupiduu, a German company, couldn't resist putting out a news release earlier this month, noting that one of its children's slides appears to be intended for George's residence at the Kensington Palace in London.

“We are delighted to honour this order. We are sure that George will have lots of fun with his blue slide, the Blue Whale, and of course we will go out of our way with the royal gift wrapping," Jupiduu founder Ken Buschmann said in a news release.
