Kevin Durant and Monica Wright split due to religious differences, according to sources.
Kevin Durant and Monica Wright split before news of their engagement was even confirmed. According to sources, the difference in their religious beliefs was the main cause for the separation.
Their relationship started as early as last year, and reports were even abuzz the pair was already engaged. It seemed like a match that was meant to be, with Durant a figure in the NBA and Wright in the WNBA.
It was Wright who broke the news of the split, though, in a recent chat interview at a Minnesota Lynx's Faith and Family Night event. Wright confirmed she and Durant went their separate ways early this year, and it was the differences in their faith that widened the gap.
"I was engaged last year and it kind of changed that relationship big time because I was going in a direction that unfortunately a lot of people aren't willing to sacrifice their lifestyle for."
This seemed enough cause for the Kevin Durant and Monica Wright split, although the latter didn't offer the details on which things Durant wasn't willing to give up for the relationship. Wright seemed decided to move on.
Durant also appears to take his faith very seriously, an active participant at Hillsong Church in New York. He's often seen in activities with his pastor Carl Lentz.
Durant was baptized into his faith last year, and offered a testimony of the experience. "When I came out of the water, I just felt different. Basketball is so important to me and I carry that emotion with me all of the time and before that I would be so mad at the smallest things. My coaches, my teammates, my fans. After that, I was just so positive. Showing God his grace..." (madamenoire.com)
With the Kevin Durant and Monica Wright split confirmed, chances of a real-life adaptation of "Love and Basketball" will have to wait.
