"Penny Dreadful" is already raising the bar for season 2 after wrapping up its pilot season last June. This early, the show is already keeping its audience in suspense by promising a much better plot coupled with the introduction of a new human villain.

"Showtime" president David Nevins made the announcement at the recent press tour of the Television Critics Association, saying that "Penny Dreadful" will raise the bar for season 2 and it will be a bigger year for the Victorian drama. Although he did not go into further detail about the storyline, he shared a bit of juicy info about some of its players, according to DreadCentral.

Nevin said that in the second season, Helen McRory (The Queen, Harry Potter) who starred as Madame Kali in two episodes of the show during the first season will have a stronger presence in the coming season. In 2015, she will be portrayed as the next big meanie to be reckoned with in "Penny Dreadful."

Compared to the villain of the show's first season, which could not be considered human, McRory's character is totally human in terms of its biological nature.

Fans have yet to find out if and how much trouble Madame Kali (McRory) can bring to Sir Malcolm, which is played by Timothy Dalton, and the rest of the misfits in his group. Also, there is a chance that she might want to confront Vanessa Ives (portrayed by Eva Green) who outshone her in their séance due to her real ability to connect with the departed ones.

As reported by theweek.com, "Penny Dreadful" raises the bar compared to other horror series because it weaves the tales of origin from classic spooks like Dorian Gray, Dracula and Frankenstein into one compelling story. It boasts of a diversity of interesting characters performed by actors like Timothy Dalton, Josh Hartnett and Eva Green.

The show starts production for its season two in August. By July 24, the cast and crew will be at the Comic Con to take part in the event's panel discussion.
