Ronda Rousey news features UFC women's bantamweight contender Amanda Nunes as she belittled "Rowdy's" skills as a fighter. "The Lioness" also claimed that "Rowdy's" just "got lucky" with her win against Alexis Davis.
"The Lioness" spoke in an exclusive interview with FOX Sports, as she also believes that she will be granted a title shot, should she win her fight against Cat Zingano at UFC 178 in September.
"This is the main thing: After this fight I think the UFC will give me the opportunity," Nunes said about the Ronda Rousey news. "After I beat Cat Zingano in this fight, I want to prove in this fight that I'm ready for Ronda."
Ronda Rousey handily defeated Alexis Davis at UFC 175 in early-July. Despite the hype surrounding Davis, who is both a black belt at both Japanese and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, "Rowdy" easily took her down and rained down punches on her within 16 seconds.
It is said to be the second-fastest finish in UFC history.
But despite this accomplishment, the Brazilian challenger is still not impressed with Ronda Rousey's skills.
"If she comes to strike or if she goes on the ground, I can beat Ronda, too," Nunes continued about the Ronda Rousey news. "I think keeping distance from her and don't give her the opportunity to grab you. If you punch her very hard, she'll give up."
"Move back and forth and throw a punch," she added. "By the end of the second round, she won't have enough to keep it going and that's my strategy and I'll beat Ronda Rousey."
Ronda Rousey may have won her first eight professional fights via armbar, but since being a UFC champion in 2013, she has developed her striking game further. The fruits of her labor were evident during her last two fights, against Sara McMann and Alexis Davis respectively.
But for Amanda Nunes, "Rowdy's" last victory was a fluke.
"Her striking is not very good," Nunes said. "She knocked Alexis Davis out because she was lucky."
