Samsung Galaxy S3 Update: Early in May, Samsung started to roll out upgrade to Android 4.4 KitKat. Report says that U.S. Cellular, Sprint, Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile revealed about the update in their software support pages. According to Android Origin, Australian carrier Vodafone sent an official notification to its users and the Canadian carrier Rogers also confirmed that the update is coming for its subscribers as well. Verizon also joined the bandwagon according to Droid Life. However, GottaBeMobile noted that there are still Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates missing in North America including the T-Mobile Galaxy S3.
Reportedly, many weeks after the initial roll out, Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat updates has remained MIA at most carriers outside the U.S. In recent updates to their progress reports according to GottaBeMobile, French carrier SFR and Australian carrier Optus, have not released any information regarding upcoming plans for the Galaxy S3.
"SFR's schedule offers information on updates through August with Android 4.4.2 KitKat updates for the Galaxy S4 mini and Galaxy Note 2 4G planned for that month. Optus, which typically announces updates months in advance, has announced updates for its Galaxy S4, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S4 mini but the Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update remains out of the picture," Adam Mills reported.
Last month, Gamer Headlines reported that update will continue to expand rapidly across the United States and most probably for the rest of the world. Vodafone Australia has just confirmed that the 4G version of the Samsung Galaxy S3 (model number GT-I9305T) will definitely be getting 4.4 KitKat. However, the carrier's latest update says that it is "awaiting software for testing" and that the "ETA to be confirmed by Samsung." Reportedly, it points to a Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat update on its way but it is just not clear as to when.
Reportedly, Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S3 (GT-I9300) model which has only 1GB RAM was dropped off from the Kitkat update list. This Galaxy S3 does not have the sufficient space for supporting the latest Android KitKat OS.
