If you're one of those people who hates having to stand in line to have your morning coffee, then the Starbucks app is just for you! This new mobile offering will allow you to order and pay of your coffee even before you drop by the shop to get it.
Starbucks will initiate testing the new mobile ordering process in an undisclosed market this year. If successful, this new app will allow fans of the Seattle-based coffee chain to place orders using the mobile Starbucks app ahead of picking it up at their Starbucks location of choice.
This new way will allow you to skip the line at the baristas and having to state a complicated mix of orders. And most importantly, no more lines at the cashier! All you have to do is go straight to a pick-up spot for your drinks.
There are, however, a few challenges to this new process. Like, what happens if a user arrives at the Starbucks to find no drink waiting for him or her? Or, what if the person waits too long to pick up his order? That will surely compromise the quality of the product.
Nevertheless, Starbucks is working out the kinks and we'll surely here more solutions as they start rolling out. The company plans to roll out the service nationwide at some point, though it's not speculating as to when it might be ready to do that. "We will do this and we will get it right," said Starbucks chief digital officer Adam Brotman, in an interview with Recode.
"We're trying to get things down to a science," Brotman explained, adding that they're focusing on getting the ordering part of the app down first, before focusing on payment options. "We want to get mobile ordering right first, but you could be hearing more about us in the mobile wallet or universal loyalty space sooner than later," he said.
