Sony has finally break its silence on what's the real score in "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" and its spinoffs during the San Diego Comic Con. The third installment of our friendly neighborhood Spidey is pushed in 2018 which paves the way to the super-villain film "The Sinister Six".
Drew Goddard will helm "The Sinister Six", which will hit the theaters in November 2016. Although the members of the super-villain haven't revealed yet, most likely Electro, Green Goblin, Rhino, and Doctor Octopus will be part of the movie. Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, and Mysterio might join the wagon apart from the four characters mentioned.
"With Sinister Six in the hands of writer-director Drew Goddard, we feel extremely confident placing the film on a prime date in 2016," Doug Belgard, Sony Pictures Entertainment Motion Picture Group president said in a statement released by the studio.
The film won't be complete without Spider-Man appearing in the film, considering that they are his arch-enemies. However, nothing is sure yet until Sony announced it officially. We also don't know if Andrew Garfield will appear as Peter Parker and Spidey in the said "The Amazing Spider-Man" spinoff.
It is also not sure if Shailene Woodley will play as Mary Jane Watson in the postponed Spider-Man film, but one thing is assured by Sony: "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" will be back sometime in 2018. Delaying the release date of the film will give the studio the ample time to figure out how to bounce back after the not-so-impressive earnings in the second installment. It could also look for people to work on the film after Robert Orci dropped the franchise to direct "Star Trek" sequel and Alex Kurtzman also leaving the production.
Marc Webb may or may not join the third installment because he might want to do something else while waiting for Sony to give him the go signal.
