Henry Cavill girlfriend Gina Carano's December fight against defending title holder Ronda Rousey might not be certain yet, but report says that talks between the UFC and Carano are "progressing." UFC president Dana White and CEO Lorenzo Fertitta met with Carano and her team Monday in Los Angeles. According to UFC Tonight's Ariel Helwani, the dialogue is in a "better place than they were last week" and a potential contract deal is "getting close."
However, Helwani noted that the title bout for December might not happen because of a movie commitment Carano has. According to the website Syracuse, "The Opium War," starring the former Strikforce champ, is scheduled for filming by the end of the summer or later in Upstate New York. If that is the case, it might affect Carano's training ahead of a potential title bout with Rousey.
Reportedly, White has said publicly that he's assured that a deal will be reached. According to Cagewriter, White told reporters that the fight would be in December, but not on the UFC's annual New Year's Eve card. Reportedly, the Dec. 6 show at Mandalay Bay is the only pay-per-view the UFC has scheduled in December. This fight is expected to happen if Carano will sign the deal.
Rousey has previously expressed her admiration for Carano and her desire to have a match with her.
"Not only did I admire what [Carano] was doing, but also I was blown away by the reaction all the guys were giving them, and, I just remember sitting there and thinking, 'I could totally beat both of these chicks.' Whether she ever wants to fight again or not is entirely up to her. But, ever since that day when I had that first taste of women's MMA, she's the fight I wanted."
Carano hasn't fought since August 2009 after a TKO loss from Cristiane "Cyborg" Justino.
