Attack On Titan News: 35-Year Old Male Worker Arrested For Uploading AOT Manga 10th Volume

From Crunchy Roll, an American Website and international online community focused on streaming East Asian media, reported that Prefectural Police's Consumer and Environmental Protection Division and its Daishyouji station arrested a 35-year-old man office worker from Kaga-city due suspicion of copyright infringement.The case referred to the Komatsu branch of the Kanazawa Public Prosecutors Office last July 18, 2014.

The accused suspect was said using a file-sharing software, a tool use to 'share to upload' the time-limited edition of the 10th volume of Hajime Isayama's popular manga Attack on Titan to the internet without the copyright holder Kodansha's permission on December 20, 2013.

Both print and digital editions of the volume were simultaneously released in Japan on April 9 (2013). Later on, it came with a full-color version of the 14th episode which was originally included in the 4th volume as a time-limited bonus content.

The illegal act and some evidences were found by the prefectural police's cyber patrol as they searched the suspect's house and seized his PCs and hard-disks he used for the crime. The suspect admitted his charge and he said,

"Because I was able to get the file using Share, I wanted to provide it for other users." Additionally, he is also arrested on obscene electromagnetic record distribution charges.


Uploading the contents of the manga tankobon or magazines throughinternet without the respective copyright holder's permission is illegal in Japan. Anyone who will commit this crime will be sentenced a 10-year in jail or a fine of 10 million yen (about US$98,000).
