Anderson Silva's comeback update features "The Spider's" target of fighting Nick Diaz for Superbowl Weekend of 2015. His camp also believes that the most clamored match-up against Nick Diaz will be "the biggest fight in MMA."
According to MMA Fighting, the Anderson Silva camp is targeting next year's Super Bowl weekend for the date of the fight.
"Ariel Helwani on Thursday that Silva's top choice to fight upon returning to the UFC would be Diaz, ideally on Super Bowl weekend 2015," said reporter Dave Doyle.
According to UFC President Dana White, Anderson Silva's comeback is slated for February 2015. Right now, the former UFC middleweight champion is still undergoing rehabilitation after suffering a broken leg injury during his fight against Chris Weidman at UFC 168 in December 2013.
On the other side of the fence, Nick Diaz has agreed to sign a new three-fight deal with the UFC, after months of haggling and making demands. The 30-year old controversial fighter from Stockton, California made his new deal official this past week as he personally made an appearance at the UFC headquarters in Las Vegas.
The elder Diaz brother also spoke about his intentions about fighting the man who was once considered as the "Greatest Of All Time" in mixed martial arts.
"I'd be interested in fighting [Anderson Silva] and anything that's going to do well," Diaz said in a report by UFC.com. "As far as Anderson Silva, I think that would be a great fight for people to see because he has my type of style."
Anderson Silva's comeback is looking more positive according to his camp, and has also expressed excitement for the match-up in a recent interview.
"It would be one of the biggest fights you can possibly put together," manager Ed Soares said. "Everything's there. No matter who Anderson fights in his first fight back, it's going to be big."
"But now you add Nick, who the fans love and who has also been away for awhile, and you think about how their styles match up, and we're talking potentially one of the biggest fights in all of MMA," he added.
