Kevin Love has refused to play for Team USA this summer, according to the official announcement made by Jerry Colangelo, the managing directory of the USA national basketball team. He said, "The fact is we can only look to the players we have available. Our job is to get the job done with our very, very deep roster, and we're anxious to get things started."
The statement also mentioned that Kevin Love told the USA basketball that he has decided not to participate in the upcoming basketball tournament "because of his current status." In other words, he is merely waiting for the Minnesota Timberwolves to finally trade him and that he is not interested in obtaining any sort of injury.
Training camp starts on Monday. With this said, it would be safe to say that Kevin Love's decision was made on the last minute. Kevin Love might have initially believed that this whole saga would end by now. However, if his fate truly lies with the Cleveland Cavaliers and Andrew Wiggins is going to be included in the package, then there is absolutely nothing that can be done for nearly one full month.
Kevin Love playing for the USA national basketball team would have been a sure shoo-in for the later rounds of the World Cup. Losing him will serve as a bit of a blow to Team USA, since none of the other players have a similar gameplay. Still, though, fortunately for the team, they still have the advantage of overwhelming basketball skills and talent that Kevin Love's absence will most likely not be a big deal, anyway.
Colangelo informed Mar Stein of ESPN, in reference to Kevin Love's absence in the team, "You can't just sit around and cry in your beer about who you don't have. You look at what you do have and you say, 'We're going to get the job done.' We feel very confident about our opportunity. We're ready for it."
