Which smartphone is the ideal choice for consumers? We pit the Nokia Lumia 720 against the Blackberry Z3 to see which is worth the purchase.

For the design and dsiplay, the BlackBerry Z3 has 5 inch screen that renders a resolution of 540 x 960+220 ppi, while the Nokia Lumia 720 has smaller 4.3 inch IPS (In-plane switching) LCD display that can render a resolution of 480 x 800+217 ppi.

The BlackBerry smartphones has a sexy, modern design and its back case is made out of a textured material, while the front glass was carefully designed in order to give it an overall gentle aspect. The Nokia model has the same classic design made out of matte plastic which can be found on the earlier Lumia versions.

The Blackberry unit weighs 164 grams, which makes it heavier than the Lumia smartphone which weighs 128 grams. The Z3 is 0.37 inch thick and comes only in black, while the Lumia 720 is only 0.35 inch and comes in a variety of colors like blue, white, black, yellow, red.

In terms of hardware and OS, The BlackBerry Z3 has 1.5GB RAM and a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, 1.2 GHz processor. It has 8GB internal storage capacity which supports a microSD card to up to 32GB and it runs on the BlackBerry v10.2.1 operating system.

The Nokia Lumia 720 has a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4, 1.0 GHz processor and 512 MB RAM. It has the same 8GB internal storage but supports a microSD up to 64GB. The Nokia unit runs on the Microsoft Windows Phone 8 which can be upgraded to the 8.1 version.

For the camera and battey specs, has Blackberry Z3 has a 6.7 MP main camera with LED flash and a 1.3 MP secondary camera can be found on the Nokia Lumia 720. The Z3 has a 5 MP main camera (LED flash) and a 1.1 MP secondary camera.

The Z3’s battery has a capacity of 2500 mAh which is able to offer up to 15 hours of talk time and 389 hours of stand-by. The Lumia 720 has a 2000 mAh battery which can power the phone for up to 13 hours of talk time and 520 hours stand-by.

In addition, the Nokia Lumia 720 supports microUSB v3.0, NFC and micro-SIM and is packed with Wi-Fi 802.11. The Balckberry Z3 also comes packed with Wi-Fi 802.11, micro-SIM support and Bluetooth v4.0, but it doesn’t support NFC.

The BlackBerry Z3 can be purchased for $289.00, while the Nokia Lumia 720 is slightly cheaper for only $260.
