Simon Pegg Star Wars: Shaun Of The Dead's Simon Pegg To Star In Star Wars Episode VII Secret Role; Did Sherlock Star Benedict Cumberbatch Just Confirm This?

The Star Wars Episode VII cast list has been revealed, and we pretty much know who will be the main stars of this prequel to the story set in a galaxy far, far away. But there are rumors flying about that there is one big star who is up for a secret role in the movie.

Shaun of the Dead's Simon Pegg in Star Wars is what we've heard lately, and we can completely understand why this news would make so much sense. First off, the comedian has starred in sci-fi movies such as Star Trek and is a self-confessed superfan of the Star Wars series. It also helps that he is really good friends with Star Wars Episode VII director J.J. Abrams, who had cast him in both Mission Impossible and Star Trek.

According to IGN Middle East, Simon Pegg actually visited the Star Wars set in Abu Dhabi to film for his role in the upcoming prequel.

The World's End actor did categorically deny that he would be in the movie though. He has stated that he believes director JJ Abrams should in fact put in new faces to populate his Star Wars movie. But Pegg is not known for being honest with the media about certain casting choices. It will be recalled that he also told reporters that Sherlock star Benedict Cumberbatch would not be playing Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness, and look how that turned out.

Speaking of Benedict Cumberbatch, MTV is speculating that the Sherlock star did in fact let it slip that Simon Pegg is indeed in the new Star Wars movie. He was being asked by the music channel during Comic-con 2014, if the director had talked to him about being in the new Star Wars movies. And his answer was this:

"J.J. and I are friends, so yeah, possibly. But I think J.J. is very good at creating something original out of something known, and I think apart from his continuing use of Simon Pegg - and who can blame him, frankly - it made sense not to do it."

The part of the Sherlock star's answer that has got the rumor mills grinding of Simon Pegg in Star Wars, is when he says J.J. Abram's "continuing use" of Simon Pegg. Does this mean the actor is in fact in Star Wars Episode VII? Cumberbatch could have very well confirmed the rumors, or it may be an innocent statement on his part. Stay tuned to find out.
