The official "Mad Max: Fury Road" trailer is out.
Comic-Con fans were in for a special treat last Saturday, with the official debut of the "Mad Max: Fury Road" trailer. A Facebook tease was even released days before the actual reveal, informing creator George Miller himself will be present for the debut.
George Miller directs the fourth installment to the "Mad Max" franchise, after a thirty-year, long hiatus. The series built up a cult following.
The first trilogy is one of Mel Gibson's most notable projects, catapulting him as an A-list action star in succeeding films. New blood takes over this time around; the Australian Outback vigilante Max Rockatansky is played by versatile actor Tom Hardy, whose last notable performance was in the role of Bane in "The Dark Knight Rises."
The last installment in the Mad Max franchise was released thirty years ago, in 1985's "Beyond Thunderdome." The "Mad Max: Fury Road" trailer also gives a sneak peek into co-stars Charlize Theron, Nicholas Hoult, Zoe Kravitz and Riley Keough (cbsnews.com).
The trailer is short and intense, running for 2 minutes and 29 seconds. Notable is the (almost) absence of dialogue, though. A total of 19 words were exchanged throughout the tease, most of the footage focused on the chase.
Key phrases which reveal the plot: "water wars" and "killing for gasoline," the same scarcity and commodities characters vied for in the previous trilogy. George Miller revamps the franchise with new blood, but with the same production techniques.
Miller previously confirmed the movie will have as few digital effects as possible, focusing on real road stunts instead. This style proved to be a success in movies like Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof," also in car chase scenes for movies in the 70's and 80's.
The movie employs a sizable cast, with sparse dialogue in between them. It's also hard to recognize Charlize Theron in the "Mad Max: Fury Road" trailer, head shaven and all grit (smh.com).
