Tim Burton, famous for his directorial turns in fantasy films that have a touch of the macabre, such as Nightmare Before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands, and most recently, Alice And Wonderland, is set to bring a children's book to life.
The director did it once before in adapting Roald Dahl's Charlie And The Chocolate Factory to the big screen. And the result was a children's movie that was just the right touch of the dark and strange.
It's only fitting that Burton would bring this new best selling young adult book to life. Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children is a deliciously creepy book that is the debut novel of American author Ransom Riggs.
It revolves a boy who had just experienced a tragic family event, and follows him as he discovers an abandoned orphanage on an island. Originally the was to be a collection of photographs that the author had amassed.
The book became a New York Times best seller, and it reached number one in the Children's Chapter Books of April 2012.
20th Century Fox snapped up the movie rights to the book, and Jane Goldman (X-Men First Class, Kick-Ass, Stardust) will be adapting the book into screen. It seemed only natural that Tim Burton was hired to direct the movie.
Now, the Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children movie has just had actress Eva Green attached to the project. If the deal pushes through Green will most probably play the title character, the woman who is the guardian of the orphans.
The French actress' most recent film is Sin City: A Dame To Kill For, and she can also be seen in Showtime's series Penny Dreadful, which was recently renewed for season 2. Starring in the book's film adaptation will reunite her with Burton, who directed her in Dark Shadows.
The Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children movie will be released on July 31, 2015.
