Jay Leno will mentor on the "Last Comic Standing" which means he's heading to NBC once again, but not for a new run of "The Tonight Show." The network has announced that the former host will be the final mentor to the remaining finalists.

With only five finalists left in the "Last Comic Standing," the show turns to Jay Leno to become the last mentor of the final five comics, Deadline reported.

In the episode to be shown on Thursday, the final five comics are unaware as to where they will be flown to (in Las Vegas) and the surprise guest that they are supposed to meet. Host JB Smoove introduces Jay Leno to the comics by telling them they're about to meet "one of the funniest comedians in the world," according to Philly.com.

Jay Leno's "Last Comic Standing" appearance will allow the contestants to field questions to the 64-year-old host and comedian about their concerns regarding stand-up comedy. Jay Leno, meanwhile, will provide tips and ideas on how to do stand-up comedy to the final five comics before they undergo a set of challenges that will trim them down to four.

The "Last Comic Standing" producers also tweeted about Jay Leno appearing on the show as a guest-mentor on July 27:

"This week our comics are whisked away to Las Vegas for a chat with none other than @jayleno! #LastComic"

Jay Leno is known as a host and stand-up comedian, which makes the guesting in the "Last Comic Standing" very fitting for the retired "The Tonight Show" host.

Without a late night show to headline, Jay Leno busies himself on his YouTube show "Jay Leno's Garage" in which he features several of his cars, vintage cars and supercars, and throws in tips to car enthusiasts as to how to take care, restore and road test cars.

"Jay Leno's Garage" is also consecutively nominated for an Emmy award since 2011 in the Outstanding Special Class- Short-format Nonfiction Programs category.
