Timbaland's "Opera Noir" album is the most innovative work he has ever done, according to the master producer himself, and could also be his last solo album. The "Know 'Bout Me" singer also talked about Michael Jackson and the lack of superstar artists nowadays.
Timbaland compared "Opera Noir" album to the likes of Prince's "Purple Rain" and Dr. Dre's "Chronic" album, and while it is yet to be proven, the hit producer comes out honest about his feelings in his latest project.
"Yeah, this is my 'Purple Rain' solo album that I'm going to put out. I have no features on it. It's called 'Opera Noir' and it's the most innovative work I've ever done. It's all about truth and what's going on around us. It's about my personal truth," Timbaland told Rolling Stone.
When asked why he likened his upcoming album to Prince's Purple Rain, Timbaland said "Opera Noir" will serve as his "grand finale," which hinted that this could be his last album. The 42-year-old rapper/record producer said that it could be, as he wants to focus on being a family man and even a mentor to other artists.
"It could be, for like me doing solo, because it's not about me. It's about my artists, so you know, I'm just being the teacher. The people that I birth, I want to help them shape their careers because they have longevity. Mine, I'm at a stage where I want to enjoy my wife, I want to enjoy my family a little bit more. I just want to enjoy life. I worked so hard to get to this point that I haven't really sat down to enjoy life the way I should enjoy it."
Timbaland has already produced massive hits for various artists, and recently this year he wrapped up producing Xcape, a second posthumous album for the late King of Pop Michael Jackson. The "Shock Value" singer said that doing the album is "stressful and emotional" as it brings back memories of other close friends' death, such as Aaliyah and his best friend Static.
"There's something very emotional when you hear Michael Jackson's voice, but you don't see him; that's kinda scary. It's Michael Jackson for God's sake, why wouldn't it be stressful? It's his last album. It all worked out for the good. It's a great album," MTV UK quoted Timbaland.
Venturing out on developing new talents, Timbaland proudly said that he's about to introduce two new talents "that you've never seen before in this Earth."
"The younger generation, we haven't seen a star being born yet. We've seen Drake. Drake might have been the last star that we've seen, but we haven't seen a superstar yet, like super, super-star.
Timbaland's "Opera Noir" album does not have a release date yet.
